BIM jobs in Hungary
Some of these positions are common in Hungary, while others are primarily found in larger, more developed countries where the size and complexity of projects, as well as the development of the organization and market, justify their spread.
In Hungary, it is common for tasks associated with individual positions to overlap – this can be due to individual capabilities, organizational characteristics, the company’s workflow organization, and, of course, the economic situation. The positions listed here may not be 100% applicable to every company – including BuildEXT – but we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the possible roles.
Below, we briefly introduce the typical BIM-related positions and their responsibilities:
BIM Manager
Responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing the BIM strategy throughout the project.
- Ensuring adherence to BIM guidelines and standards.
- Coordinating and supporting project teams in using BIM tools and processes.
- Managing data and ensuring the flow of information among project participants.

BIM Coordinator
Responsibilities:
- Coordinating and integrating BIM models from different disciplines.
- Performing clash detection and resolving issues.
- Updating and maintaining the BIM database.
- Collaborating with designers and engineers to optimize BIM processes.
BIM Modeler
Responsibilities:
- Creating and maintaining detailed 3D BIM models during the design and construction phases.
- Integrating and coordinating designs from various disciplines within the BIM model.
- Modeling architectural, structural, and MEP elements.
- Using BIM tools (e.g., Revit, ArchiCAD) to develop plans.

BIM Professionals: Key Figures in the Digital Construction Industry
In recent years, BIM has experienced incredible growth, leading to the creation of many new BIM-related positions. These jobs require specialized expertise and knowledge, as they ensure the effective and integrated implementation of projects and the optimization of buildings throughout their entire lifecycle.
But the question arises:
How to become a BIM professional?
One might quickly say, through proper training, but unfortunately, theoretical BIM education in Hungary is still quite lacking.
Although BIM is already part of the curriculum at universities (e.g., there are BIM engineer courses at BME and PTE), fresh graduates need to undergo intensive practical training to catch up and truly understand the workflow.
In this regard, companies with proper BIM expertise play a crucial role, not only in transferring specific professional knowledge but also in shaping the mindset and approach.

☛ We faced the issue of education ourselves, which is why we have launched free Revit training for recent graduates over the past few years. We offered jobs to the best performers, and during the onboarding process, we expanded everyone’s Revit knowledge.

Graduates are entering a field that is rapidly changing both technologically (think of the market-shaping impact of AI over the past two years) and in terms of regulation (ESG) and economics (accelerated digitalization since COVID, soaring construction material prices, etc.).
This requires a much more agile and open-minded approach than what previous generations were used to, which again highlights the importance of organizations with a good mindset and corporate culture.
Fortunately, the state has also recognized this significance and supports BIM education and training in the new construction law, including university courses, professional training, and various workshops.
