ACADEMIA on M1’s Blue Planet in March
- April 8, 2025
How can a 100-year-old building be elegant, liveable, and sustainable? The answer is the ACADEMIA office building, which was renovated in the heart of the city centre on behalf of ConvergenCE. Now, the March edition of M1’s Blue Planet shows in video how we thought about the renovation – and the systems behind a real vision.
The programme will also feature Regina Kurucz, Managing Director of Rewell Consulting, WELL AP & Faculty sustainability consultant, explaining why ACADEMIA is an outstanding example of a sustainable and people-centred office environment.
Old values, new features – greener, smarter
ACADEMIA is located in a historic environment, which made the modernisation project a noble challenge. The aim was to preserve the character of the building while creating an office of the future with full functionality and services.
The aim of the renovation was not just to make the building look good but to make it work smartly and for the long term. The reimagined ACADEMIA has not only been renewed from an aesthetic point of view: energy-efficient engineering, digitally traceable operations and a real-time BIM model help to serve tenants’ needs.

Throughout the project, we continuously updated the building’s digital twin: with each new tenant moving in, we redesigned the spaces, which was immediately reflected in the BIM model. This not only improved transparency in the construction but also made the operation more efficient in the long term.

Planet Blue – what is sustainability here?
Many office buildings claim to be “green”. In the case of ACADEMIA, this is not just a marketing label. The building has been designed with a holistic approach that focuses on energy-conscious operation, human well-being and intelligent operation at the system level:
- the building’s mechanical systems are optimised for energy-efficient operation
- digital control of lighting, cooling and shading – reducing waste
- the choice of materials used takes into account a low environmental footprint
- the interior spaces are designed according to the WELL principles: natural light, good air quality, and a layout that supports active working.
Sustainability is not just about the environment; it is about business and people – and it will be a competitive advantage for both owner and tenant in the long term.
Awards – but the biggest success is the sustainability approach
The ACADEMIA project has received numerous awards over the past two years, including Renovated Office Building of the Year, Office Project of the Year and Planned Project of the Year.
The innovative nature of the renewed office is confirmed not only by the awards, but also by the high level of professional certifications and the fact that this building was the first WiredScore accredited office building in Hungary.
