From digital plan to reality: the swimming pool in Sárospatak will be built based on BuildEXT’s plans
- July 4, 2025
In cooperation between the University of Tokaj-Hegyalja and the Tisza Inner Reformed Church District, a new municipal swimming pool is being built in Sárospatak according to BuildEXT’s BIM-based designs. The aim of the project is to provide local educational institutions and residents with a state-of-the-art water sports and recreation facility.
Development is part of the transformation of the cityscape
The investment is part of the University of Tokaj-Hegyalja’s urban development programme, which started with the renovation of the Lechner building and will continue with the construction of a new university campus and dormitory – all of which will have a significant impact on the urban landscape of Sárospatak in the long term.
The swimming pool is the first step in this series of developments, which will be carried out with the exemplary cooperation of the various players in the city – the university, the church and the high school.

Social utility at the service of local communities
The primary purpose of the new swimming pool is to serve the students of Sárospatak: in addition to university students, the students of the Sárospatak Reformed College’s High School and Primary School will also be regular users.
The management of the high school has previously indicated that the current conditions for swimming lessons do not meet the needs and that the new facility will be able to fully meet the educational and sporting needs with a suitable schedule. In addition, it will be open to the city’s residents, so that the recreational function will also be emphasised.
Digital accuracy: BIM and ISO 19650 in design
BuildEXT designed the project using a state-of-the-art BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology, which allows for the coordinated, conflict-free integration of different disciplinary plans and ensures efficient facility management in the long term.
The ISO 19650 standard used in the design process ensures that all data is structured and traceable – so the digital model is not just a design tool, but also a source of information that can be used throughout the lifecycle.

Environmental design with digital tree maps
BuildEXT has paid special attention to the protection of the natural environment in its design. A high-resolution point cloud survey of the site was conducted and each tree was individually recorded in a digital tree map. The swimming pool construction involved 11 trees, which included specimens in a life-threatening condition as well as young trees still in development. The system also indicated that some trees had died in a storm in the meantime.

Thanks to the data-driven assessment, interventions will be limited to what is necessary to ensure that the natural environment remains an integral part of the development.
Personal connection: local value creation with local patriotism
BuildEXT is proud to contribute to developments that are not only architecturally outstanding, but also have a significant social and environmental impact – especially when they improve the quality of life for future generations.
„This project also means a lot to me personally – as a native of Sárospatak, it is a special pleasure to be able to contribute professionally to the implementation of such a large-scale investment serving the local community” – said Csaba Livják, founder and CEO of BuildEXT.
