Reducing energy costs with digital twin
- October 11, 2022
With today’s energy prices, any business manager with a real estate portfolio would give half a hand to have a single high-level dashboard that can analyze and visualize in real-time which of their properties is what size, what condition and how much of what they are consuming.
He would be even happier if, drilled down a level, these properties had backup documentation, god forbid a BIM model or digital copy, which, supported by FM software, could speed up and simplify operations.
It would be even happier – and especially more productive – if someone could build this model/system/database and, after an energy and health audit, advise where to intervene to significantly reduce consumption/losses.
Now, this is the fabulously complex need for which the market today can hardly find a competent player, and this is the need that is broadening the activities of design offices and moving them towards a systems integrator role.
We can radically reduce
energy costs with
the building’s digital twin
Since this is not feasible with continuous changes of stakeholders, the classical ad hoc assignment of a designer is shifted towards a long-term contract and monthly fee service, where the task is to build and maintain the digital twin of the real estate portfolio, the data structure, the software infrastructure, decision support systems and where the planning and development tasks have to be performed.
At least that’s what I believe, and if anyone would like to be one of the first to take part in such a pilot, I’d be happy to have a chat. In the meantime, take a look at this chart below, which you can see similar ones all over the internet.
