BuildEXT in the BCSDH Time to Transform 2030 publication
- October 17, 2022
The list includes organizations that are at an advanced stage in their transition to sustainable operations.
In the letter of invitation, In the letter of invitation, the BCSDH editorial team stated that “BuildEXT was selected for Time tor Transform 2030 publication because as much as the construction industry is responsible for the built environment and overall CO2 emissions, there are few truly paradigm-shifting business solutions on the market today. And BuildEXT is a positive example.”
What is Time to Transform?
Time to Transform is a key program of the WBCSD (the parent organization of the BCSDH). It maps how systems are being transformed and lays out a new framework for managing the business for the decade ahead so that 9 billion people can live well on the planet by 2050.
But what systems are we talking about?
In short, everything that influences our lives: energy, logistics, health, finance, housing, the environment… in other words, the areas of life that we otherwise encounter on a systemic level every day.
And why is it necessary?
Because the world is facing three very critical challenges:
- the climate emergency;
- nature loss;
- and mounting inequality.
We need to respond well to these challenges, but the COVID-19 pandemic (and this year) has made it clear that
systems and the challenges they face are highly interconnected and not at all prepared for shocks.
In other words, they need to be transformed very quickly, efficiently, and on a very large scale.
What needs to be transformed?
“Vision 2050: Time to Transform” focuses on nine transformation pathways: energy; transportation and mobility; living spaces; products and materials; financial products and services; connectivity; health and wellbeing; water and sanitation; and food.
These are feasible pathways for companies, covering areas of business activity that are essential for society and in line with the SDGs:
Each of the nine transformation pathways contains ten action areas, for which the program sets out specific recommendations and action points. They move companies’ strategies, their business operations, and their impact on society in a positive direction, toward achieving these goals.
What is BuildEXT doing here?
With the construction industry responsible for more than a third of the world’s energy consumption and emissions, along with the built environment, the industry has a huge responsibility in the transition to a carbon-neutral economy (see our interactive diagram).
Although sustainable solutions are increasingly available in the sector, very few actors in Hungary are currently putting them into practice.
But BuildEXT’s aim from the start has been to use our knowledge and the new tools of digitalization, BIM, to radically transform the construction process, creating a more sustainable built environment with better energy management, lower CO2 emissions, minimal waste, and optimal operation.
That is why we have taken a very active, leading role in promoting Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Hungary and its real use for the whole lifecycle of buildings (not just the design phase), and have been doing so for two years now as a member of the BCSDH.
