Years ago, an average conference began with the words “Artificial intelligence is the most important thing we have ever invented for humanity. More important than fire or speech.”<\/p>\n\n

It didn’t seem realistic, just as it didn’t seem realistic when another conference said that radiologists should stop training because deep learning in CT scans means that software can already do a better job than humans at detecting cancerous tumors.<\/p>\n\n

But there’s also this NeuraLink<\/a><\/strong> project. The principle is that they can detect the electrical signals of a sighted person’s brain, a deep learning algorithm looks for correlations with a machine vision perception, and then it’s all fed back.<\/p>\n\n

And if it really works within 6 months, I am convinced that for a blind person it will be more important than fire and cooked food.<\/p>\n\n

But it also goes further. The way our children will communicate with the machines. Speech and drawing will probably replace the keyboard first. Then, in a few tens of years, the level of thought will come.<\/p>\n\n

Meta<\/a> seems like a good idea now, but it is a huge investment. <\/p>\n\n

And maybe Elon Musk is right, and NeuraLink will do the human-machine interface for the Matrix movie in 15 years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

And maybe we won’t have to travel, as NeuraLink enables the mixed reality and meta experience of VR glasses. But data centers already produce 3 times more CO2 emissions than the entire aviation industry. How does this affect our environment?<\/p>\n\n

Everything is changing and we’ve reached an age where by the time we’ve achieved efficiency with one set of sophisticated technologies, another technology comes along and upsets the whole thing.<\/p>\n\n

Our values are changing and the focus is no longer on achieving efficiency, but on the ability to change. On the openness and speed of adaptation.<\/p>\n\n

I see the construction industry.<\/p>\n\n

And even if in many cases our systems are still slow compared to NeuraLink, they are already 5 times more efficient than traditional workflow.<\/p>\n\n

For this reason alone, BIM-based design, construction, and operation of a complex project are well worth the effort<\/a>. In short, it pays to bother setting up our data models<\/p>\n\n

But what I think is an even bigger possibility is that in a few years’ time, interpreting this data with AI will be a matter of minutes.<\/p>\n\n

This will then become a huge competitive advantage.<\/p>\n\n

It can be critical for the competitiveness of a company. It can multiply the purchase price of a property, the running costs of a property development, or even the payback period.<\/p>\n\n

And when these solutions become available, it will be a huge disadvantage in a fast-paced world if we only start then to measure the physical parameters of buildings, upload and validate static data, or collect usage and operational data.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
