Between 5–7 October 2026, Budapest will host the European Circular Economy Hotspot 2026 international conference. The event brings together European business, policy and innovation stakeholders from the circular economy, while the conference day will take place at the Magyar Nemzeti Bank’s Lámfalussy Conference Centre. The event is hosted by BCSDH and the Hungarian Circular Economy Platform.

The conference speakers include internationally recognised experts such as Janez Potočnik, Co-Chair of the UNEP International Resource Panel, Peter Börkey, Circular Economy Lead at the OECD Environment Directorate, Quentin Drewell, Senior Director at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Prof. Dr. Diána Ürge-Vorsatz, Vice-Chair of the IPCC, and Tom Szaky, CEO of TerraCycle. In the final programme of the session, he will also give a standalone keynote presentation.

The ten-minute presentation will focus on the role of digital construction tools in supporting the transition towards circularity. BuildEXT’s approach centres on data model-based design, information management and digital project management.

The starting point is simple: sustainability in construction is not exclusively a matter of material selection or energy performance. The quality of information generated and used throughout a project also directly affects material use, redesign, errors, construction time and, ultimately, the project’s environmental impact.

A properly developed digital design and project management environment enables different disciplines, project phases and decisions to be connected within a common data environment. This can reduce parallel work, redesign caused by errors and material waste, while enabling more accurate decision-making.

Build Less and Smart

The “Build Less and Smart” roundtable, starting at 15:30, will examine how circular principles can be applied throughout the entire building lifecycle: from the reuse of existing building stock and adaptable design to material reuse, lifecycle-based thinking and digital tracking.

The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Bálint Bartha-Horváth, Associate Director at CBRE Hungary, with the Hungarian Green Building Council (HuGBC) as professional partner. Alongside Csaba Livják, the roundtable participants will include János Kocsány, Board Member of Graphisoft Park SE, Sándor Gergely, Project Leader of the KOHO project, Ádám Bihari, Founder of NaturARCH, and, according to the programme, András Katona, CEO of Modulwood.

For BuildEXT, participation provides an opportunity to introduce the digital integrator approach into the discussion around circular construction: how BIM, structured project data and information management can be directly connected to the economic and environmental performance of a project.

European Circular Economy Hotspot 2026
5–7 October 2026, Budapest
Conference day: 6 October, Magyar Nemzeti Bank – Lámfalussy Conference Centre

The European Circular Economy Hotspot 2026 programme

On 6 October, he will discuss how digital design and project management tools can support the transition towards circular construction.

[371
38,45,502,504
post-23550","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-publicity","tag-sustainability","tag-bcsdh-en","tag-konferencia-2","tag-eloadas
["GET
