just as the body is made up of cells, the BIM model is made up of data.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-create-block-buildext-cover-block alignfull cover\" style=\"min-height:704px\"><div class=\"desktop\" style=\"background-image:url(https:\/\/buildext.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/tanuszoda-sarospatak-BIM-01-3840_1408-scaled.jpg)\"><\/div><div class=\"mobile\" style=\"background-image:url(#)\"><\/div><div class=\"inner-container\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-black-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-35d87b691b7ef4a3506177575b83b6a4\">A BIM model is made up of a lot of data<br data-mce-bogus=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>And the data content is fundamentally determined by three factors: <\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the <strong>BIM objectives<\/strong> set at the beginning of the project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the <strong>information needed<\/strong> for each project phase<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>classification<\/strong> of data.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p>What does it mean?<\/p>\n\n<p>For example, a <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim-objectives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>BIM objective<\/strong><\/a> might be to use the model to feed the FM software that will be connected later (<a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim-dimenziok-2-2\/#7DBIM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">7D BIM<\/a>), to simulate the entire construction process (<a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim-dimenziok-2-2\/#4DBIM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4D BIM<\/a>), or to be able to query the entire project cost in real time based on the model data (<a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim-dimensions\/#5DBIM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5D BIM<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n<p>To achieve the desired BIM goals, we need to be able to collect the right data and <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/what-is-lod-loi-log-loin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">incorporate it into the model at the right time.<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p>Not too much, not too little.<\/p>\n\n<p>On the one hand, data management requires a lot of design, management, and engineering man-hours, which is very expensive, so it is important to <strong>avoid including unused data in the project<\/strong>, only the needed data.<\/p>\n\n<p>Of course, this also requires that the planner and the client, and in general the stakeholders, <strong>do not misunderstand each other<\/strong> at all &#8211; It is useless to have a large amount of data, but with a non-uniform, incomplete or poorly managed dataset, our problems (data exchange, data maintenance, coordination, automation, communication, etc.) will only increase <\/p>\n\n<p>So the data provides the framework for the project, but for it to work, the elements need to work well together.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"collaboration\"><strong>Cooperation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Think of the body again: even if we have all the cells to perform the functions, they need to work together to make our bodies work well. And not just any way: it would cause a lot of problems if our neural pathways only knew part of what they were doing, or if our hands instead of our feet were activated by a misinterpreted command. <\/p>\n\n<p>The quality of collaboration is so important that the market specifically classifies BIM projects into <strong>different quality levels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<div id=\"bim-dimenziok\" class=\"wp-block-group has-background is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"border-width:1px;background-color:#f9f9f9\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.letsbuild.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/BIM_infographic_lb.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:305px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">BIM levels (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.letsbuild.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/BIM_infographic_lb.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Letsbuild<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u261b <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim-levels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BIM levels<\/a> represent the collaboration between project stakeholders &#8211; this shows how &#8220;mature&#8221; the BIM workflow is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the cooperation between the different actors increases, the more efficiently and integrally the information content of the model is used. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The different BIM levels and their characteristics are <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim-levels\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3706\">summarised in this article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>BIM is only good if the project stakeholders are able to <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/when-is-bim-good\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">collaborate<\/a>, and this requires<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>not only <strong>technology<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>but also <strong>human efforts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p id=\"technology\">The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/origin-of-bim\/\">technology is there<\/a><\/strong>: we have excellent, constantly evolving software, hardware, AI and broadband internet to keep information flowing smoothly.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> \n<iframe title=\"Spot, the robot dog from Boston Dynamics scans Buildext office\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cTE59Gqx7BA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n <\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Spot, Boston Dynamics&#8217; robotic dog, has already helped laser scan our office in 2022<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p id=\"humanfactor\">But the <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/adaptive-capacity-not-matter-of-age\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>human <\/strong><\/a>factor is a completely different problem. The construction industry is fraught with specific conflicts of interest that make it difficult to truly reap the benefits of BIM. Not exhaustive:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the <strong>contractor <\/strong>is not necessarily interested in increasing transparency, and has its own &#8220;tried and tested&#8221; tools and often does not want or dare to invest time, energy and resources in the new methodology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the <strong>investor <\/strong>will not invest so much money based on the promise of a better ROI from a workflow that is less familiar to him<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the <strong>procurer<\/strong> is more interested in obtaining a low price and often does not opt for value for money in a significant proportion of cases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in tenders, projects are sold at extremely low prices by <strong>architects<\/strong> in difficulty, who then destroy confidence with &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim-wash-hollywood-bim\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"15232\">Hollywood BIM<\/a>&#8221; projects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and <strong>operators<\/strong> are basically fine with their excel statements and are often not interested in faster and more efficient maintenance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>However, the costs of BIM are optimally distributed and the benefits of the methodology are best exploited when it is applied by project participants throughout the <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim\/#bim-digitalis-eletciklus\">digital lifecycle<\/a>. Much of the metadata can be used in multiple phases &#8211; 3D sectional models can support not only design but also construction, and for many manufacturers the <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim-objects\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"14908\">objects<\/a> they contain are also provided with information on, for example, installation, maintenance and warranty. <\/p>\n\n<p>It goes something like this:<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> \n<iframe title=\"Weinberg Irodah\u00e1z 2024\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/l5QMyf-MKm4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n <\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">BIM methodology was used for the Weinberg office extension <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">But the human factor can cause problems. Where the specialist in the field has reverted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim\/#klasszikus-modszertan\">traditional methodology<\/a> (e.g. printing out the plan to fix the problem instead of managing the changes in a closed data environment platform on his smartphone screen), the system gets a &#8220;defect&#8221; and becomes the weakest link in the process. <\/p>\n\n<p>And at this point, everyone is screwed:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the <strong>contractor<\/strong> is faced with on-site repairs that are expected to generate new problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in practice, the <strong>investor<\/strong> is forced to allocate resources to foreseeable slippages and cost overruns and to cope with problematic outcomes in both the short and long term<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the <strong>procurer<\/strong> can often negotiate solutions for change with deteriorating conditions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>architectural firms<\/strong> and <strong>discipline engineers<\/strong> can slip back into a world of endless negotiations and rolling error sequences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and <strong>operators<\/strong> may once again find that the finished building does not match the design.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This means that everything that digitalization has to offer the construction industry is lost.<\/p>\n\n<p>Therefore, the quality of collaboration and an experienced company delivering true BIM and acting as an integrator is of utmost importance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The quality of data and collaboration is 90% of what makes a BIM methodology work.
