We organised a BIM workshop for colleagues from my first job at BuildEXT. What I experienced made me think.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>First of all, it was a deeply nostalgic experience to recall how this once small construction company with only a few members has grown into a <a href=\"http:\/\/weinberg.hu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">general contracting and steel structure manufacturing company<\/a> with more than 200 employees.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1231\" src=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Weinberg-Buildext-iroda-visit-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13071\" srcset=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Weinberg-Buildext-iroda-visit-4.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/buildext.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Weinberg-Buildext-iroda-visit-4-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/buildext.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Weinberg-Buildext-iroda-visit-4-768x492.jpg 768w, https:\/\/buildext.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Weinberg-Buildext-iroda-visit-4-1536x985.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The man in the picture is one of the pioneers, one of my first &#8220;mentors&#8221;. I learned the first tricks from him as a newbie foreman on a construction site 23 years ago. At that time Istv\u00e1n was already an experienced construction manager.<\/p>\n\n<p>Today, I tried to teach him something new.<\/p>\n\n<p>Today in our office I showed him in 20 minutes,<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>how the QR code of a paper design on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dalux.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.dalux.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dalux<\/a> interface can be used to display a model of the designed engineering system in half a minute via the phone&#8217;s camera, and then<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I gave him a pair of VR goggles to interactively walk him through the photo-realistically rendered interior design of their <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/projects\/weinberg-office-building\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"projects\" data-id=\"207\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new office building<\/a> while teaching him to teleport, and finally<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I put our Hololens MR glasses on him so he could see the machinery running above our office ceiling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide has-text-align-left is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-black-background-color has-text-color has-background has-large-font-size\"><strong>Then I felt, <\/strong><br\/><strong>that it turned the world upside down a bit with him.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>And then &#8211; after a short processing time &#8211; this man said: This is good. This is very good This must be used.<\/p>\n\n<p>This man, who often didn&#8217;t even receive plans and spent his life standing with both feet on the ground, guiding manual workers, declared that this technology must be utilized.<\/p>\n\n<p>This man, who lived a life of improvisation &#8211; or &#8220;firefighting&#8221;, as they call it &#8211; and watched a company grow a hundredfold in 20 years, was not flustered by the prospect of using a futuristic ready-made solution.<\/p>\n\n<p>And it always strikes me that the ability to adapt is not a matter of age.<\/p>\n\n<p>I&#8217;m reminded of the 30-year-old design guy who told me at a job interview the other day that he had learned everything and didn&#8217;t want to learn anymore. He claimed that <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim-hub\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/bim-hub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BIM<\/a> would not become widespread because contractors are not ready for it.<\/p>\n\n<p>We often worry that contractors are not prepared for digitization. But often, they are the most open-minded, regardless of their age.<\/p>\n\n<p>These folks? They&#8217;re more than thinkers, they do! Give them a target, and they charge.
