{"id":10909,"date":"2023-04-20T10:03:12","date_gmt":"2023-04-20T10:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buildext.com\/?p=10909"},"modified":"2023-04-24T14:56:24","modified_gmt":"2023-04-24T14:56:24","slug":"jenga-construction-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/jenga-construction-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"Jenga in the construction sector"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>We like to talk about sustainability, efficiency, and the economic potential of <a href=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/en\/bim-hub\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/bim-hub\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BIM<\/a>, but I keep feeling like I&#8217;m in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1596363\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Big Short<\/a> before the crash.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>You just stand there and see what should happen, but the market doesn&#8217;t react. He&#8217;s rushing to his doom like there&#8217;s no tomorrow and you just don&#8217;t get it.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"The Big Short - &quot;Jenga&quot; Clip (2015) - Paramount Pictures\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3hG4X5iTK8M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>It would be logical for economic operators to take the construction value chain, start optimizing it, and create economically viable buildings to build and operate.<\/p>\n\n<p>We have everything we need. It starts with building a structured information model, refining it with simulation, connecting to communication platforms and construction support apps, operating software, and IoT, and creating a digital twin-based, efficient building that is cheap, fast to build, and consumes little.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/buildext.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/bim-lifecycle-image-02-1080_1080.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4076\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>But that is not what is happening, because the value chain is dismembered. This scenario does not occur in reality.<\/p>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccd <strong>Investors<\/strong> don&#8217;t care at all how their house is designed or how much it will consume, because they will pass the cost on to someone else.<\/p>\n\n<p>The investor wants to put the contractor out to tender, and then &#8211; when the house is already expensive &#8211; bargain it down to cheaper, more expensive to-run engineering and inferior materials. The main thing is to be cheap.<\/p>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccd The majority of <strong>contractors<\/strong> do not want to use the technology. In the end, we will find out how much material is in the house. It also means more control and it has to be dealt with. And how will you account for extra work if there is no fire fighting? Well, that&#8217;s the benefit.<\/p>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccd It is not in the interest of the <strong>operators<\/strong> to have a system at the customer&#8217;s site that stores the data of the house. In the end, the customer can replace it if it is not done well.<\/p>\n\n<p>So, everyone is working to maximize their own profit and it&#8217;s not in their interest to do it faster and easier, because then you can&#8217;t charge as much. The client or the tenant will pay for it anyway.<\/p>\n\n<p>And until there are players in the market who realize that this is not right.
